The Oldest Mosque in Beijing - Niujie Mosque

Salam Maal Hijrah 1435H.

I just wanna share pictures of the oldest mosque in Beijing, taken during my Beijing trip last September. Located at Xicheng District, this mosque is 10,000 square meters and was first built in year 996. Designed by Nazaruddin, the son of imam.

It was destroyed by Gengis Khan armies in 1215 and rebuilt and expanded in year 1443 and 1696. Today, Niujie Mosque and its area is surrounded by Muslim community and Halal mutton and beef as well as halal grocery store with arabic sign can be found across the street.

It was an old mosque, although it has been refurbished few times. But it surely bring the peaceful feelings compared to modern mosque that basks under expensive tiles and fancy mosaic, fully air conditioned with luxury carpet back in home country.
