Bangkok 2012 : What's it Like to Travel Solo? #3

Bangkok : Where Taxis are colorful. Put it all together =  is Rainbow on the streets!

I never seen so many colors of taxis in my whole life, until Bangkok. They have all kind of colors, you just name it. It's all new cars (Toyota Vios, mostly) and colorful. And it became so beautiful because they didn't assigned specific colors for specific district, or location. They just colored it as a part of streets decoration. That's how Thailand or Bangkok Tourism do their thing. They paid attention to every little details in making their city looks lively in day time. Not just depending on neon lights

I still have little hard skin on my right palm when Im writing this. It is from the blister I got while dragging my luggage up and down Bangkok city. That's the most meaningful souvenir I got for myself from this trip. I proved to myself that Im not all Barbie. I can drag my heavy luggage under sunny day on busy streets of a stranger's land, with my hair all messed up and sweaty armpit. I can.

After checking my room and freshen up, I can't wait to see Bangkok up above the air plane view (no more bird's view) Because birds cant fly this high :)

Or, maybe SuperBird.

Thailand's first and only challenging open- air, 360 degrees revolving view point, located on the highest floor of the building

I present to you, Beyond Metropolis -

Tak lah... tak gayat pun.. hehe

What I tell you about rainbow on the streets?

Im gonna tell that cowboy, this pair of legs were made to walk on this planet earth. Not riding horsie!
Looking at this picture, it makes me remember a story of a conversation between the two;

Random girl: What does the weather have to do with laundry?
Me: I have to walk to the laundromat, I don't have a car
Random girl: That makes no sense.
Me: What?
Random girl: You can't get to class without a car.
Me: Um, yeah I can. I do it every day
Random girl: That's stupid, how are you supposed to get anywhere without a car?
Me: Well, I have these amazing devices that are attached to my lower body which when engaged, create movement which enables mobility.
Random girl: (stares at me confused, obviously not catchin my sarcasm) Do you buy those at, like, the Apple store?

That's it, any hope that I previously had in mankind is now officially gone.

So, I started my 2nd day Bangkok exploration. heh.

Shopping malls! Obviously, Siam Centre made for females :)

I reckoned that setting a stall around shopping mall is prohibited. So they do the garden picnic style.

This t-shirts costs around THB 200 - 300. Come to my surprise, the material quality is good! So, I did some shopping, and I love the garden picnic style! Haha.

I was so hungry, then I remember I didn't had any meals for that day yet! And it was already 2pm. So I walk to MBK hoping to get Japanese as my lunch. MBK just located just opposite Siam Centre. How to describe these two malls? HHmmm to me, It seems like MBK is the Kuala Lumpur's Mid Valley shopping Mall and Siam Centre is The Garden Shopping Mall.

So I came to this Japanese restaurant, called Kobune. The shop has a weird smell though. Very weird. Like a dead rat smell :(

But I was too hungry and thirsty, so I sit down and continue with my orders. This strawberry smooties wasn't bad at all. But after 10 minutes, my order still didnt arrive my table. I was getting angry as if I can eat these people alive as my sashimi of the day. I called them to check my order. Still, another 10 minutes passed by. Nothing. I went to the counter and paid the smooties. Walked out with bitter face. No wonder it smells bad. That must be few customers died of starvation - while waiting for their food order!

Walk off and crossed back to Siam Center. I need to eat!

and Suddenly I hear "gitchi gitchi yaya dada.. gitchi gitchi yaya here...." in a VERY SEXY flow, a Mary Nelson Version!!! . I drawn to the sound of it..

Creole Lady Marmalade....

It's all Femme Fatale. Heavy colored furniture, velvet chaise longue, black mannequin, tall wine glass, complete with grandeur food presentation. I was expecting the waitress are all in Burlesque costume, complete with leather whip. WTF. Im having seductive lunch moment all for myself!

They have this, um, lunch set which is finish at 3pm. And I was 10 minutes late. I asked them whether I still can get the set.. they smiled to me and replied "of course, ma'am" Ah! I knew it! I am destined to have my lunch here!

The set costs me THB500++.

So! I had my experience at Skydining in Siam Centre. Will you next?

So, I continue with walked around the mall, up and down, north to south, east to west. Then I saw this!

I don't know that Amway is a big thing in Bangkok!

I was lost inside this very big mall.. and I forget that I have more destination to go. Damn you shopping malls!

I went back to the hotel, missing a lot of other important site of Bangkok. I can't believe that I spent the whole day inside shopping malls!

Back at the hotel lobby, they already started with live shows, music and weird costume to warm up the new year evening.

I had a hard time to figure out this show. Was is about Napoleon Bonaparte becoming centaur, Centaur dressing like a Napoleon Bonaparte, or Napoleon Bonaparte is Centaur? Help!

Sunset from my bedroom. I know this is not the greatest sunset ever captured, but this is the sunset I had when I was in Bangkok. I always love sunset, I always spent a few minutes in silent, just sat and watch the golden hues turned into dark skies with my mind totally blank. It is some kind of meditation to me. I never able to vacant my mind from thinking and wondering or remembering something, somewhat, even in the middle of Yoga session. But with sunset, my brain went idle just like that.

Im a Sunset person, maybe just because Im not a morning person. I hardly see sunrise. Haha. But I am very lucky so far - able to watch and capture many hues of sunset in my life. I called it 'my special sunset'. Each of my special sunset I spent with special someone - My best friend, girlfriend of 15 years, BFF of 20 years , and myself alone. Some of the most memorable one...

And now, I present to you - Bangkok night skyline.. from Baiyoke Sky Suite Tower.

I dont think that I need to describe how magnificent Bangkok SuperBird view at night. I can dance to the "Empire State of Mind" with this background.

It's a concrete jungle on fire!

whoops, I know, I was lucky because the guard of this revolving deck suddenly came to me and asked if I wanted his help to take the picture.. I guess the whole Baiyoke Sky Suite hotel noticed that
I'm all alone by now and "oh poor that girl, no one can take picture of her with the view" :( So, Thank you Mr Revolving Roof Deck guard!

They have pretty ladyboys to meet and greet the hotel guests at the lobby, just for the special night - New Year Eve.

S/he's prettier than pretty girl :)

Well, I was walking around back and forth, don't know what to do. I saw people around me gathered, ready for new year countdown and big fireworks. Family, friends, lovers are all hand in hands. As they screaming to the final countdown, I feel something warm dripping down my chin..

...and I wish I'd never felt this way again. Ever.
This is the reason why I don't have Bangkok big fireworks pictures taken! FML.
..but then I remember.. unbeknownst to us, we already had our 1st fireworks together at the beginning of when we met, a celebration of the east meeting the west.

"It's my dream for a year to be near you, I'm not going to crush my own dream. Maybe it will have all been worth it just to spend that one Sunday with you. I never wanted to hold a girl's hand or kiss her lips as much as I wanted to that day with you. Maybe you think it's too fast, but I was still too scared to try. Standing in the city of lights watching fireworks is THE most romantic moment that I will ever accidentally step into and all I could do was stare at you from behind"

... to be continued..

Bangsatnya Lelaki Melayu yang satu ini.

Im running late to office. I must admit, tedious job wear me out completely, lately. But it's ok, I love doing what I do, and yet I got paid while doing it. No, this is nothing about my work.

Im running late, but I texted office informing them that I'll be late. Yes, be responsible. Always let your office know what's going on with you within your working hours 9 - 6. They replied 'OK'.

Im running late, and just when I reached office, I saw an orange Gen-2 with registration number "Putrajaya 7318" in the middle of the streets, flashing out signal to right. So I wait. 2 minutes passby.. I beamed it. Nothing.

3 minutes passed by, I honked it. Nothing.

I was thinking.. is anyone inside that fucking car? If NO, the driver must be drinking ass juice in his/her whole life to leave the car in the middle of the street instead of double parking somewhere. Other cars starting to queue up behind me.

Im running late, 5 minutes passed by. I got out from my car and REALLY want to check out what's fucking on. It was drizzling. Surprise, surprise! Well, Im not really surprise. Actually I was expecting a faint guy on the driver seat with his penis out from his pant. Masturbating in the middle of the road and faint right after he finish jerking.

There is a young Malay guy waiting patiently blindly stupid as his brain was vacuumed out through his filthy asshole. I knocked his window. He rolled down with "whassup bitch?" kinda face.

I asked him "What are you waiting for?"
He replied me "You asked him what is he waiting for?" - pointing at the black Satria in the parking lot.

I WAS SHOCKED. he waited that long and let the other cars queuing behind him for that?

"Why don't you go further up? There are more parking lot over there!"
"My office is here"

FUCK YOU!

I can't stand looking at his fuckfaced. Samseng Face. That face is deserve to be used as whore ass wiper. Whore with herpes. So I walked to that black Satria, inside, I saw a young Chinese guy texting on his Blackberry. I knocked his window.

"Excuse me, are you coming out or not? because there is a moron waiting for this parking spot for more than 5 minutes and blocking everybody"

"oh! Im sorry.. yes.. Im coming out now.. sorry.."

I know that young Chinese guy has the RIGHT to feel that way (surprised) not because Im knocking his window.. but there is a MORON WILLING TO WASTE HIS FUCKING FREE TIME & OTHER PEOPLE PRECIOUS TIME JUST TO GET A PARKING LOT 5 STEPS AWAY FROM HIS OFFICE?

At least he said "sorry". When he has the right to sit inside his car in parking lot as long as he wanted playing with his Blackberry or watching few movies on his Playbook until tomorrow. There is no rules saying that - once you got into your car in any parking lot, you MUST immediately drive out from it. But, it take no rules to be drafted out to tell you, "Der, if the car in that parking lot didn't move in 1 minute, just move to the next la der.."

While I walked back to my car, I said "Fuck You" when I passed by his car. I wish he come out from his car and start talking to me and I'll tell him where he should place his balls right. Or maybe he don't have any at that moment because he left it at home in his momma's freezer. He deserves that. I pity any girl who marry to him or take him as a boyfriend because he don't carry around his balls and not to mention brainless. Even a DONKEY will move away from the street when there is a car behind it, honking.

5 Minutes later I got down from my office to buy my milk, I don't see his car anymore. He has left the building. Apparently he waited longer than he parked. That's a Malay guy that I know today, on Friday morning. I don't know what type of Malay guy I might know in the next 24 hours, or 24 days. Don't blame me if my opinion didn't favor you. But I hope this will change soon once the right Malay gentleman appear in front of me and prove me all wrong. Bring it ON!.

Tapi mamat Melayu tadi.. memang Bangsat la bagi aku.

Bangkok 2012 : What's it like to travel solo ? #2

"Bangkok : where Parti PAS & BN are one. Heh."

Traveling alone gives you more time (and privacy) to observe things around you since you have no one to talk to. You tend to gain more on streets knowledge, too, because you need to ask A LOT. Yes I've googled, read and asked some information regarding some interesting places in Bangkok, but well, when you are busy dragging your heavy luggage up and down public transportation, made you forget it all.

Travelling alone save you from embarrassing / disgusting / inappropriate candid shot by your travel buddy too.

Exhibit A: Stupid

Exhibit B: Disgusting & embarrassing up skirt. And she uploaded this on Facebook (without the X)

Not to mention you can wake up and sleep whenever you want to, you can miss hotel breakfast, continue to sleep in bliss without hearing voices waking you up. You can eat whatever you want without worry that your travel buddy actually wanted to eat other things and again (on time). Ok. Stop about how good is to travel alone already. It just some of my points to make me feel good about it :(

Bangkok Day 2:

My decision to stay at Bhiman Inn on my 1st day arrival wasn't bad at all. The hotel just 2 minutes walk from River Taxi pier "Phra Arthit". I need to move to my next hotel and stay there until the end of this lonely trip :(

I read about Chao Phraya River a lot during school. So now I want to 'cruise' along something that I read for almost 20 years ago. 'Cruise' - sounds very grand. But actually, it is the cheapest public transportation in Bangkok. Dirt cheap.

THB30 for a view of Bangkok City for 20 minutes, complete with tour guide. Opps, my Xmas nail color still on. Fugly.

This is me with Mr Timer taking my picture. I can rely on Mr Timer every time when I'm alone. I love you Mr. Timer.

On Board. She explains and gave information on every big and little buildings that built along Chao Phraya River stream, left & right.

Well, the water is scary. Friend said to me that I will fall sick if I accidentally swallow the water splash. Uh.
But the view is quite amazing. I didnt come back here at night, which, I should. I bet the skyline view along this river would be so much more amazing than day time.

I present to you, day view of Chao Phraya River.

I was lucky one of the tourist willing to help me with the picture on the boat!

The Kapitan is so happy, finally someone care to snap his picture. He even smile for my camera :)

At Sathorn Pier.

After dragging my luggage up and down, No! I didnt lie! look at the staircase!

and I found that they have lift after both of my hands are all blistered :( Im so stupid, why I never thought of it.

My next hotel is in Pratunam Area (and again, public transportation which is, Train) so that's why I choose to take train from Sathorn. it's not that the tuktuk is that expensive, I just want to take a look at Bangkok city from many type of views.. river view, high city trail view, ground level view.. bird's view.. in 4 days time.

So it cost me THB45 to go nearest train station to my hotel, Rajchathewi, with one stop at Siam Centre from Sathorn. They have a day pass train, priced at THB120 and you can use it from morning till midnight. Hop in & out every stop, or anywhere you want to. All rail except train to International Airport.

Im quite sure of where Im heading to, but then I still wanted to feel like a lost traveler. I don't know why. I became  addicted to ask around. Or, maybe Im too lonely and I find that, asking around is the only way for me to chat with someone. WTF. So this girl, Im not sure what she is, she looks like Korean/Japanese/Vietnamese,  not Thai's, but my point is, she's Asian but yea she did sound like an English speaking Japanese, explained to me to change my train at Siam Center station. She even offered to give me her map. I knew she isn't Thai! No local girls walking around Bangkok holding city map, but white men's hand!

Well, I looked around me, be it on the streets or train, I saw many white guys with Thai girls, walking hand in hand. I bet that is not his wife or girlfriend, and I strongly believe that he is not purely STUPID to read / ask direction where he wanted to go to either. But from my observations, these guys automatically became retarded & lost their back bones (but their balls still attached somewhere) once they stepped into Asia. Suddenly they need someone to help them to cross the street? During day time? I still forgive them if it's a night time, well, maybe these guys has poor night vision due to cataracts or astigmatism or BLIND. AND these guys are either TOO UGLY, TOO OLD or TOO FAT.  I mean, seriously? They are willing to travel that far just to get PAID service of 'helping hand - crossing the busy road'? If yes, I PITY YOU.

Arrived at Rajchathewi. People told me that it took only 5 minutes walk to the hotel I booked for my whole stay from here. I can see the tip of the hotel tower from everywhere I stand. It looks so close and I think I can hit it with a slingshot. Yea.. after 5 minutes trying to get there with so called - slingshot - distance, I gave up. So it's time for a Tuktuk. I'll post up my video on Tuktuk on my next post (tak tau bila la tuuu)

For THB60 (after some bargaining) he agreed to bring me to the Hotel. You see, the type of hotel or hotel area you stay can give you some kind of trouble too. They sometimes quoted you the ride charge according to the type of hotel you stay. If I really know Bangkok city area very well next time, I just ask them to drop me at wet fish market & tell them I sleep there. They might send me for FREE!

Streets in Bangkok is all about shopping spree. Ladies' favorite mostly. But then it will be men's favorite too after seeing their lady putting on something they get from the streets. But if you are not careful enough, you will end up looking like a street girl and your man looks like paying a street girl to help him to cross the streets!

Hey, looks like tuktuk that im riding now has the same color with the other one. Were they separated at birth?

And here I am. The other reason why Im in Bangkok.

"The Baiyoke sky Hotel, rising 88-storeys above Bangkok's skyline, is Thailand's tallest and Bangkok most scenic hotel. The hotel is strategically located in the largest fashion square of downtown Bangkok, surrounded by various shopping centers and entertainment attractions. While enjoying the spectacular view of the colorful city from the artistically built hotel or haggling around the famous Pratunam area, there is also easy access to many shopping paradises. The Central Wold Plaza, Platinum Fashion Mall, Pantip Plaza, peninsular Plaza, Gayson Plaza, Sogo Department Store, Siam Center, Siam Discovery, Siam Paragon and Siam Square are only within a few walking minutes from the hotel. Cuma kau nak kena bawak banyak duit jer. Shopping la sampai keluar buih ikut mulut kau"
Source~ Baiyoke Sky Hotel website.

er, the last statement is mine. Not theirs.

Um, the more you pay, the sweeter the treatment is. Bellboy came running to help me with my luggage soon I stepped down from a cheap Tuktuk. Ah, I don't need to drag my luggage for few days now. #bliss.

Hotel reception is at 18th floor. I arrived earlier than check in time. But they still let me in. Yeah, I bet they saw the amendment record I sent them online - double bed - twin bed -  double bed - then twin bed. I mean.. what kind of person who pay attention to the of type of bed when they are sleeping ALONE, anyway? Well, I CARE.

48th Floor is all I can afford.

and for extra precaution, since Im travelling alone, I took a lesbian's lady's floor. No male on this floor, they can enter this floor but only up to elevator's lobby. Male still need the magnetic card to pass through the glass door. Ladies, you can walk naked on this floor. Just like ladies changing room at spa recreation.

I know, the bed and the carpet isnt that impressive. But they are not selling the bed or how the carpet looks like & feel. But they are selling the View.

Ok la.. the bottle of complimentary mineral water is kinda cute. It's the shape of the tower itself.

OMG, Im so tired. I want to rest. I mean, not after I drink that mineral water.. but I mean now. I'll continue about Bangkok View and all on my next post.

Tata~
